Some days the little guy just likes to sit down, have some supper and watch the news.
Category: a moment with James
I’m sure every parent has been through some version of this:
James is usually quite happy to hang out by the bathtub and watch it fill up. This night was no different. Lots of squeaks and sounds – I’m guessing that those will turn into words some day. Also, lots of side stepping, which I’m guessing will turn into walking some day. For now … it’s just James having a hoot (screech?) by the tub.
ps. Don’t judge our shower curtains. We’ve been busy.
Doing his best to delay bedtime, James made time for emptying the box of Kleenex in his room. Along the way, but not shown here, he also showed me that he’s been hiding some toys and even his nail clippers in the same box. Now we know where to look when things are missing.
James has been standing up for a while now, but with the recent addition of a new toy, he’s begun to show more interest in walking. I’m not sure if he’s walking because he wants to, or if he’s walking because the toy keeps sliding on our floor. Either way, he’s moving. In this video, he gets frustrated when he hits a dead end. A few hours later, he was beginning to figure out that if he moved a bit, he could keep walking after a dead end. Smart little fella.
James has developed a method of crawling that we call ‘slap crawling’. He gets his hands up very high and slaps them to the floor. He’s usually moving pretty quickly, so it’s hard to get him on video – this is the best footage that I’ve been able to get up until now.
Michele (er … Santa) got James a cute little toy set for Christmas that has a hammer and pegs. He’s been banging and clanging things for months, but so far he hasn’t done a lot of banging with the hammer. That’s not to say that he doesn’t love to crawl and stand with the hammer in his hand though. For now, we’re enjoying the relative quiet of his hammer time.
James seemed to enjoy his new ball popper toy – he knew which button to push to start it up, and where the balls were stored. Seems like an intuitive user experience to me … and a fun toy for James. Thanks, Tita Ricca!
The baby giggles are back again. James couldn’t stop laughing at my low-grade duck sound after a bath recently. Once again, he was laughing so hard that he made himself cough.
After a good nap today, James was waiting for me when I went up to get him. As you can see, he’s very good at standing. He makes some sounds that sound something like “Dad” or “Daddy”, but at this point I think that’s more of a coincidence than anything intentional.
