James just had a weigh-in at the doctor’s office. He’s in the clear. He’s gained nearly a pound since his lowest weight, and more than half a pound in the past week. He’s up to 6 pounds, 10 ounces now, or just a hair over 3 kg if you prefer. Later on, he showed us that he doesn’t mind tummy time at all, managing to turn his head from side to side, and squirming around quite a bit. That’s my boy!
The pace of photos has slowed down a bit here as we’re all trying to get caught up on sleep. Thanks to a few extra hands on deck (those would be Ricca’s) and some great cooking from the Georgetown Alumni Group (thanks Anne!!!), we’ve actually been able to move from sleep deprived to jet lagged. That’s progress.
It was a good day for visitors, with friends and family coming from afar to see (and hold) James.

Not exactly looking our finest, but here is how our little family looked the day that James turned one week old. In lieu of a tripod, I used the bathroom mirror to help out with this shot. I could be wrong, but I think that this is the first photo of the three of us together. Oops. Not sure how I missed out on getting one of these before now.
Today is James’s one week birthday. He is celebrating by sleeping, which I feel is a great way to celebrate. His feeding cycles have stretched out a bit, which is good for all of us. He tends to be awake long enough to make a few really funny faces, look around, eat, and then go back to sleep. What a life! We’re glad that he’s joined us.
We probably aren’t doing enough thank yous, but, we need to thank everybody who has been helping us out. Lots of beautiful flowers and balloons. Some great meals. Some unbelievable helping hands in the home to help tidy up, change diapers, cook meals, hold a restless baby, and give some new parents a break. Many people to thank, but Lola Elma and Tita Mae have been two of the biggest helpers – THANK YOU! And now for the cute baby photos …
We just can’t get enough of our little James. He’s healthy, and still as cute as a button. Checkup at the doctor went well today. No real surprise, he’s small and skinny, with a bit of a big forehead … so pretty much the perfect combination of his parents.
I learned a new trick at the doctor’s office today. (By the way, James is healthy, and doing great.)
James seems okay with sleeping during the day … hopefully he’ll figure out nighttime sleeping too.
